Jordi Espin, Secretary General of the European Shippers’ Council, will share critical insights on how ongoing maritime disruptions are impacting global shippers. Representing the voice of European cargo owners, Jordi will discuss the growing challenges around port congestion, unreliable schedules, skyrocketing freight rates, and limited carrier competition. He will outline shippers' expectations for transparency, fair market practices, and improved collaboration with carriers and ports. Drawing from ESC's advocacy efforts, Jordi will also explore policy-level actions and digital innovations that could restore balance, efficiency, and resilience in maritime logistics from the shipper’s perspective.

He will share his views on how BHP leverages global shipping liners to move around 50,000 TEUs annually, transporting critical commodities like copper, nickel, and uranium, while also importing essential goods for mining operations. As one of the world’s largest dry bulk charterers, BHP is actively engaged in decarbonizing maritime supply chains—investing in LNG-fuelled Newcastlemax vessels, trialing biofuels, and exploring wind-assist technologies. Fergus will highlight BHP’s ambition to deepen connections within the containerized freight ecosystem and promote emissions reduction through innovation. He will also discuss the importance of data-democratization in driving sustainable transformation across fuels, fleet technologies, and strategic partnerships.
