Crispin Chatar, the Drilling Optimization Champion at SLB, brings a wealth of experience spanning across roles from M/LWD engineer to Drilling Engineering Center Manager. Currently focused on delivering fit-for-purpose engineered solutions in Well Construction, Crispin integrates diverse technologies and domains to solve complex challenges for clients worldwide. Formerly a Drilling Subject Matter Expert at the SLB Technology Innovation Center in Silicon Valley, he now champions innovation through digital transformation. He shares his insights on how extended reality (XR) is revolutionizing the oilfield, enabling a powerful virtual twin journey that enhances visualization, collaboration, and decision-making in drilling operations.

He will share insights from SLB’s eight-year journey monitoring and adopting emerging technologies like extended reality (XR) and gamification to transform oilfield operations. Through extensive research and experimentation, the team developed fit-for-purpose XR designs in collaboration with key industry partners. These innovations have enabled immersive training environments, real-time collaboration, and enhanced data visualization for field operations. By integrating virtual twins of worksites, SLB has improved safety, efficiency, and decision-making in complex drilling scenarios. His talk will explore the evolution of these technologies, including how gamification fosters better engagement and knowledge retention. He will highlight successful deployment use cases, such as digital twins used for planning and simulations. The presentation will also uncover key lessons learned from real-world applications, the critical role of cross-functional collaboration, and challenges in scaling XR solutions.
